Mobile Data Service Description

Mobile Data Service Description

What is it?

UFONE Mobile Data service provides mobile internet connectivity to any 4G/LTE capable device using a SIM card.

What are its use cases?

Our mobile data service is ideally suited for low data usage applications such as:
  1. Backup internet connection for sites with fibre or DSL internet
  1. Primary internet connection for sites with low or only occasional data usage
  1. Smartphones or tablets that need mobile internet or WAN access when outside office Wi-Fi

Can it be used for phone calls or SMS?

Not natively, but you can use it for Voice over IP with apps like 3CX or Teams

Where can it be used?

The service can be used anywhere in New Zealand that is within 2 Degrees 4G coverage, which is almost all of the country. You can check their coverage map here https://www.2degrees.nz/coverage/

Does it come with a static IP address?

Your mobile data connection can be set up by us in a number of different ways.
  1. Dynamic IP - The standard connection type for most internet connections
  2. Static IP - A dedicated static IP just for your data SIM (Extra cost)
  3. Backup IP - IP address is shared with main fibre or DSL connection (only one can be online at a time, else they will conflict)
  4. WAN IP - A private IP address inside of your WAN (Wide Area Network)

Can I tie it in with my WAN and cloud firewall?

If you are currently using our WAN (Wide Area Network) service with cloud firewall, you can natively tie smartphones and tablets into the corporate WAN even when users are out of the office. That way they can access internal systems natively as well as being policed by your corporate firewall.

What modems are supported?

Any 4G/LTE compliant modem or phone/tablet should work with the service. Here are some models that we have tested:
Netcomm NL1901ACV
Mikrotik LtAP mini LTE
TP-Link MR600

How do I configure my modem?
